4 Day Extended Sea Kayak Course.

- Sea kayaking Mecca.
Enjoy four full days of
sea kayaking instruction while cruising around majestic granite islands,
remote ocean beaches,
exploring numerous coves and bays and experiencing the thrills of sea
kayaking
on the open sea.
This course starts with the fundamentals of energy efficient and injury
prevention paddling techniques along with safety issues and rescues.
From there students are progressed through sea kayak
surf negotiation,
proficient bracing / support strokes, open sea paddling techniques and
of course rolling after a capsize.
A full day is devoted to touring or trip execution with navigation,
pilotage, weather, tides and planning issues explored in detail.
(Apart from the skills and knowledge gained, touring Corner Inlet by sea
kayaks is an
experience in itself.)
The final day is is used as a spare to either catch up or refine any parts of
the course.

Sea Proficiency and Advanced Skills
Days.
Building
on the Fundamentals Sea skills, these instructional
days are a fun way of
developing and refining more skills to enjoy extended sea kayak touring.
All practical
days with surf up to one metre for Proficiency and two meters for Advanced.
Surf negotiation skills .
A full day of surfing including:
The basics of beach topography and hazards,
Wave dynamics,
"Rules" of the road (surf etiquette),
Low brace and high brace (when to use),
"Catching" the wave,
Broaching,
Surfing sideways and backwards and
Stern ruddering.
Open sea Paddling.
Turning with strong winds - weather cocking, wave crests,
Maintaining course - "J" lean, sweeps,
Maintaining speed - shifting to low gear, keeping momentum,
Following seas - Broaching, Yawing, Stern rudders, bracing, Rolling
and re- entry.
Developing confidence upside down - staying in the kayak,
Hip flick or thigh raise - getting the kayak up,
Effective use of the paddle. ALL a natural progression..
